Instructions for correct installation of the Fap/Dpf filter

The Fap/Dpf (Particulate Filter) is not just an auxiliary component, but plays a crucial role in the engine's exhaust system. It is essential for controlling exhaust emissions and must be installed correctly to ensure optimal vehicle operation.
The Fap/Dpf cannot be considered a catalytic converter, with a few exceptions, as it does not contain any noble metals. Instead, it is a filter made of 'ceramic' or 'porous silicon carbide'. To ensure its proper functioning, it is essential to take certain precautions and carefully check the vehicle before installation.
Before proceeding with installation, be assured of the following:
-
Check the efficiency of the pressure and temperature sensors. If in doubt about their efficiency, replace them.
-
Carefully inspect hoses and pipes. Check the efficiency of the intake manifold, in particular the opening and closing of the motorised valves, to avoid leaks that could cause incorrect back pressure readings and activation of the Fap/Dpf engine light.
-
Check whether the wax tank is full (where applicable) and replace the wax if necessary. Do not simply add wax to the reservoir.
-
Before starting the engine, check and, if necessary, replace unsuitable parts to avoid the accumulation of soot mixed with diesel, which could cause the Fap/Dpf to clog up quickly.
-
When installing a new or reconditioned Fap/Dpf, connect the PC to the ECU and start the installation programme. Reset all errors as set by the programme before starting the engine.
-
Make sure the fuel tank is at least half full. In some models, regeneration will not start if the fuel level is too low.
-
After starting the engine, regeneration will start automatically. If this does not happen, perform a forced regeneration as indicated by the programme.
Here are some important precautions to be kept in mind:
-
Forced regeneration of the filter is essential to show the ECU that the filter is new or no longer as clogged as before. If this is not the case, the Fap/Dpf will passively fill up to saturation, signalling the switching on of the engine light.
-
Make sure there is more than half of the fuel in the tank, as in some models regeneration does not start with a tank that is too empty.
-
Some vehicles do not provide for forced regeneration, so make sure that the ECU regenerates the Fap/Dpf. If this does not happen, it is advisable not to hand the car over to the customer.
-
You can check whether regeneration is in progress by observing the differences in pressure and temperature while driving.
-
Make sure to follow all specifications and manufacturer's recommendations for engine oil, as an unsuitable oil could cause the Fap/Dpf to block.
These steps and checks are essential to ensure proper functioning of the Fap/Dpf and maximum vehicle efficiency. Pay particular attention to the specifications of your engine model, as additional precautions may be necessary to ensure optimal filter operation.
Don't neglect these aspects, as correct installation and maintenance of the Fap/Dpf is crucial to keep your vehicle in perfect condition.
